Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find a some of our most frequently asked questions. We know this list is not all inclusive, but we think it will help answer some of questions you may have about our services and policies. Please free to give us a call if you need further explanation or if a question you have is not on the list.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured with both liability and workers comp. insurance.
No matter who you hire to provide cleaning services to your home, the one thing you should always demand is a current copy of the company’s workers comp. insurance certificate. Hiring a cleaning service without a current workers compensation insurance policy in place puts you at risk. Any company doing business in Rhode Island, Massachusetts or Connecticut must, by law, have a workers compensation insurance policy in place. Doing business with a company who fails to carry this required insurance is a risk you don’t want to take! Ocean State House Cleaning is proud to say that our staff are fully covered by a workers compensation policy in case of an on-the-job injury. We will be happy to have our insurance agent fax or email you a copy of our current insurance certificates upon request.
What is your cancellation policy?
To avoid a cancellation fee, please give us at least 72 hours notice of any cancellation or reschedule. A lock-out fee equaling the cost of your cleaning will be charged if we cannot gain access to your home the day of your scheduled cleaning. Please see your service agreement with us for more information or call us at 401-732-7856.
What if I’m not happy with my cleaning?
We offer a 100% Happiness Guarantee on our services. If you are not happy with your service, please call us at 401-732-7856 within 24 hours of your cleaning and we will come back to re-clean any areas of concern.
IMPORTANT: In order for our 100% Happiness Guarantee to remain in effect, it is essential that you call us within 24 hours of your cleaning if you are not satisfied. You must also allow us access to the home within 48 hours from the time of the original cleaning so that we can re-clean any areas of concern. If you do not contact us in the allotted time, or do not allow us access to the home to re-clean any areas of concern, then our 100% Happiness Guarantee will be voided. We do not offer refunds for services rendered.
Are your staff employees or independent contractors?
Every single person who works for us is considered an employee. We are in full compliance with RI labor laws. We pay payroll taxes on our employees and carry workers comp. insurance as required by RI state law. Never hire a cleaning company who uses independent contractors. They will have no control over the people they send to your home and they are often not properly insured. When looking to hire a house cleaning service you should always ask if their cleaning staff are bona-fide employees or independent contractors.
Do you pay your staff minimum wage like other cleaning companies?
Our staff is the most important asset our company has. Without our staff we could not exist and we strive to treat each and every staff member with the respect and dignity they often have not received working for our competitors.
Whereas the majority of cleaning companies in the area choose to pay their staff minimum wage, or barely above, we offer our staff wages that are significantly higher. The majority of our staff have years of experience in the cleaning industry and came to us after having bad experiences working for another cleaning service. These experiences include not being paid for hours worked, not being paid properly for over-time, being forced to accept under-the-table wages and sometimes at rates less than minimum wage and/or being mis-classified as independent contractors. We help to educate our staff about their rights so that this does not happen to them again in the future and, in a few cases, directed them to file grievances with the proper state labor board, state tax unit or the IRS, against former employers.
The house cleaning professionals who work here at Ocean State House Cleaning love their jobs and it shows in the high-quality cleaning services they provide to our customers each and every day.
How do you keep your prices so affordable?
We are not a franchise and therefore have no franchise fees or royalties that must be paid every month like the local franchises do. This allows us to set much more reasonable prices than the local franchises. We have no corporate office dictating to us how to run our business or telling us where and how to advertise, what supplies we must buy, ect. This allows us much more freedom in forming our rate structure. Not only that, but when you chose a locally owned business over a franchise, more of your hard-earned dollars stay within the local community which helps the local economy.
What areas do you serve? What are your hours of operation?
Areas we service include all of Rhode Island, Nearby Massachusetts and Nearby Connecticut.
We provide cleaning services Monday – Saturday starting at 8:30am. Our office opens at 8am and closes at 4pm Monday – Friday and is closed on Saturday. We monitor email 7-days a week. If you need to get in touch with us after office hours, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get back to you within a few hours (usually much less).
Do you price match?
Yes! Find a lower price from another registered and insured cleaning service and we’ll beat it by 10%! We will need a written estimate from the cleaning service to price-match. Cleaning service must be a legitimate business and be fully insured (including workers comp.) to quality for our price-match program. Remember, for your own peace of mind, you should never hire a cleaning service that isn’t fully insured! Find out why by reading our blog post “Considerations When Hiring a Cleaning Service”
Do you require a contract?
No. We don’t require a contract to book recurring services with us. Many of our competitors require a 6-month to one-year contract to get their best price. That seems like an awful long commitment to expect a new client to make. We even know of one company that charges hundreds of dollars in the form of a “broken contract fee”, should you fire them for any reason. We don’t feel the need for a contract like this. We want you to be our long-term client because you want to be, not because you’re being forced to.
Although we don’t require a contract, we do require a signed service agreement to be on file with us. Our service agreement spells out our policies concerning pricing, payments, scheduling and cancellations. Your signature tells us you have read the agreement and agree to our terms of service. This way we are both on the same page and misunderstandings are avoided.
